Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow Week Beginning 10th July

Willow class have been cooking as part of their Design Technology work this week and successfully made mini quiches! We began the process by taste testing different varieties of quiche before looking at the Eatwell plate and discussing the importance of the different food groups as part of a varied diet. We then went on to select two ingredients which we would add to our own individual quiches and tried to incorporate plenty of vegetables. On Thursday, we had a very productive day of cutting out pastry circles, whisking the eggs and cream together, adding our own ingredients then pouring them into the cases to create our own mini versions. Overall, we enjoyed the process and have evaluated our designs for their appearance, texture and taste. We were impressed with everyone trying out their quiches and evaluating them by appearance, texture and taste. There were certainly some chefs in the making!

In Science this week, we've been thinking about changes to animals' habitats, particularly those caused by humans. We designed some brilliant posters to help make people aware of how they can look after and protect animals' homes. In Music, we looked at tempo, finding out some of the different words used to describe the speed of music. We then listened to and compared a slow and a very fast piece.

Our Maths lessons have been recapping many of the skills we have covered over the past term and in particular, finding fractions of amounts as well as telling the time. The children have done a good job at recalling much of their knowledge which we then put into practise with our end of term Maths quizzes.

Finally, in our writing lessons, we have been using the book Plastic: past, present and future to help us write balanced arguments on this important topic. The children used the information in the book to gather for and against arguments before writing some great examples of balanced arguments which contained many of the grammatical features that we have been learning.
