Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 27.03.23

We have enjoyed having a Topic focus for the last few days of the Spring Term and have been learning all about the six main biomes found around the world. Working in teams, each group researched a definition of the biome and explored the key features including climate, landscape, animals and plants found in these locations. They then presented them in a poster format before sharing them with the class. Each group worked effectively as a team and found out lots of facts about their biome,

KS2 held the ‘Egg Drop Challenge’ as part of their DT work on Friday afternoon, whereby they worked together in mixed classes to design, develop and test a structure to protect an egg from a 2m drop. They had to select from the materials provided and were given a time limit in which to create their design. We had some really creative ideas.

In English this week, we've been carrying on with our work on Book of Bones, which we are are really enjoying. We've been writing our own versions of a page from the book and finding out about different animals including whales, polar bears, water buffalo and tarsiers. We worked hard to follow the structure and style of the writing while including lots of interesting facts about our animal.

In Maths, we've been working with our times tables in lots of different ways. We began by working in pairs to complete a tarsia puzzle and we also carried out an investigation looking for different patterns in our times tables.

We've continued to really enjoy our Science lessons and this week we learnt about switches in circuits. We looked at different switches and we were then set a challenge to build our own switches using cardboard, split pins and paper clips. There were some excellent designs! In Music, we finished our unit on Lean on Me with a performance of the song. Some of the children even had a go at singing sections of the song as a solo and they all did brilliantly.

Willow class have had a great half term and worked really hard, They finished off the half term with their first swimming session and we are looking forward to the swimming lessons to follow. We wish you all a lovely Easter break and look forward to seeing you back for the Summer Term.
