Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 24 Hawthorn Wb 18th March

Well, we made it to the end of the Spring term, it has flown by!

It has been another busy week with lots of finishing off as well as lots of learning outside the classroom.

In English, the children have been completing their own lift the flap booklets about space.  They have included lots of lovely facts and questions about planets, stars and the International Space Station and have also added illustrations.

In Maths, it has been a week of measuring.  The Year 1 children have been introduced to centimetres and have been using rulers to measure different items in the classroom. The Year 2 children have been learning about metres, they used metre sticks and had to think about things that were longer and shorter as well as higher and lower.  They also used an app on the ipads to help them measure accurately.

In Science, we have been finding out about fruits and vegetables and we discussed how we eat different parts of the plants such as the stems, flowers, seeds roots etc.

On Monday, the children took part in a litter pick in the playground.  We were litter warriors and found out about the history of some rubbish that had been found (how long it had been there) and then had a go a clearing our school grounds.

On Tuesday, Key Stage 1 went to St Barbaras to look at the features of a church.  The children looked at the font, the pulpit, the pews etc and then they used their artistic skills to sketch some of those features.

On Friday, it was our Easter service back at St Barbaras and the children sang an Easter song that we have been learning, the Easter Egg Trail and they did a fantastic job.  After this we all went back to school and took part in our own Easter egg hunt.  Lots of fun was had by all which was completed with a very tasty chocolate egg!

Finally, thank you for all your support throughout the term and we wish you all a happy and relaxing Easter break.
