Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 24 Hawthorn Wb 27th November

Christmas is fast approaching and our Nativity rehearsals are well underway. The Key Stage 1 team have sent out a letter about costumes which should be sent into school next week, if possible, in a clearly-named bag. We do hope that you'll all be able to attend a performance.
Meanwhile, work continues across the curriculum.
On Monday, the children participated in a special work shop led by a lady from Coram Education, the providers of our Scarf PSHE scheme. The children very much enjoyed meeting Harold the Giraffe and finding out about 'their wonderful bodies'.
In English, they have practised writing their own questions and answers, based on 'What happens when ...'  and came up with some actions to help them remember to use capital letters, full stops and question marks.
Both year groups have been using number lines for subtraction this week, and again, the Year 2s have realised the value of knowing number bonds to 10 with rapid recall.  We have also played a couple of games of number bond bingo to help them with this skill.
In topic, the children delved deeper into learning about transport, past and present, while in computing, they created digital art in the style of Henri Matisse using paintz.app.
Finally, the children had a slightly shortened PE lesson where they practised some of their gymnastic skills wearing their uniforms rather than their PE kits but they still showed some super balance, pointed toes and teamwork.  Well done Hawthorn!
