Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 09.11.23

This week in Science, we started to look at the human skeleton. We joined together with Oak class and worked in pairs to create skeletons using pasta shapes. We looked at models and diagrams and worked hard to make our skeletons as accurate as possible. While we were doing this, we learnt lots of interesting facts about the bones in our bodies and we also looked closely at the number of bones in our hands and feet. Once we had finished constructing our skeletons, we worked together to label our models.
In English, we have continued to really enjoy learning about the different people in our book, 'Fantastically Great Women who Changed the World'. This week, we have been finding out about Mary Anning and focusing on using different conjunctions to tell her life story.  We then went on to research the life of Amelia Earhart before using our facts to write a biography of her life. We applied everything we have been learning about including organising paragraphs, using conjunctions effectively and expanded noun phrases where necessary.
In Computing we have been exploring branching databases to organise information into classification keys using yes and no questions. Our task involved sorting a selection of objects according to their properties and we had to write clear questions and answers to ensure the database organised the information accurately. We have also been working hard in other areas of the curriculum, especially our Art work where we have been developing our sketching skills. This week we had to create different textures by building in different patterns and tones with our sketching pencils.
You will also see on this week's blog are the photos from our visit to Forest School last Friday. Next week we will continue to work on our Stone Age topic and learn about how farming began to develop in the Neolithic era. We will make comparisons between homes and look at how they became more domesticated.
