25 Hawthorn Wb 19 May
What a super week we have had this week in Hawthorn Class as we all became super scientists for Science Week.
We have still continued with our other learning too.
In English we completed our work on "The Disgusting Sandwich" and the children planned and wrote an independent story based on this book, with new characters and settings. They worked so hard and produced some super stories.
In Maths we have continued with our work on fractions with Year 1 working on recognising and finding half and the year 2s looked at non unit fractions and equivalence.
We completed our castle models and the children added a working drawbridge to their models. I think they look fabulous!
The big focus for the week has been science and in class we have looked at zoomed in pictures to identify different things, we have read fairy stories and found out whether the things they suggest in these stories were possible (who can feel a pea through 20 mattresses and 20 feather beds - it would be as tall as 2 giraffes!) and we took our fingerprints and discovered how they can be used to solve crimes. With the rest of the school we took part in the Whizz Bang Science afternoon and the children found out about chemical reactions (elephant toothpaste and invisible ink), chromatography, density of liquids and reactions with fire. There were plenty of awe and wonder moments.
The whole week was completed with a Science challenge - how far can you make a paper plane fly. The children made different types of planes, looking at drag and forces and we all went outside to see which design was the best.
What a fabulous end to a very short half term. Enjoy the holidays and thank you for all your support.
