Shaping Bright Futures Together

24 25 Hawthorn Wb 05 May

Well, we've packed a lot into the shorter week and have lots to show for it!

In English, we've been exploring common and proper nouns, along with the singular and plural nouns, all based on our text - The Disgusting Sandwich. We'll be focusing on various grammatical elements of the book for the next couple of weeks while we build up to the children writing their own stories.

Year 1s are coming to the end of their Multiplication and Division unit, with lots of dividing by grouping and sharing. Year 2s have been focusing on quarters this week, beginning with shapes then moving on to amounts.

We've finished our Digital Pictures work in Computing and the children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own sunflowers inspired by Georges Seurat, the founder of pointillism. We also talked about the differences between creating art using traditional materials versus the digital variety, then carried out a vote to find out which the children preferred. They voted almost unanimously for traditional methods so they'll be delighted to learn that we're doing something arty again soon!

Thursday was a special day in that the children learned about VE Day.  We discussed that it was 80 years since the end of the Second World War and thought about how people must have felt.  The children then made celebratory bunting to go outside on the field after which they happily ate their own iced biscuits decorated in red, white and blue.
