Shaping Bright Futures Together

25Oak Week Beginning 28th April

What a week! Lots of sunshine to welcome us back and a new term to get started.

Our English focus over the next few weeks is about classical poetry and we have chosen The Highwayman to focus on. We will be analysing it using our poetry toolkit, looking out for powerful imagery, figurative language, tone and mood, rhythm and structure as well as interesting language. This poem has all these elements so it is a great example to spark their interests and capture the drama of the story in the narrative. In groups, the children chose different sections of the poem to act out and had great fun dressing up and playing the different characters in the story.

This half term's topic is Where on Earth? and takes us further afield in our learning about places. It follows on from our topics on Worcestershire and the UK ensuring that the children develop their locational knowledge and maps skills from a local, to national then international perspective. They have learnt all about how to locate places around the world using lines of latitude and longitude as coordinates. It was quite tricky but well worth the effort to learn an important skill.

We also started our new maypole club this week. It was a great first session, if a little too hot, and we learnt how to do two dances and we will be increasing our repertoire over the next few weeks.
