Oak Week Beginning 5th May 2025
Our shorter week started with a very exciting outing for Year 5 pupils as they went Bellboating on the River Avon. They had a great day out, revising their oar skills ready for the regatta later on this school year. Click here for a link to the photos.
The Year 4s had an exciting day with Mrs Peacey and used the poem Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen as inspiration for analysing poetry using the skills they have been taught in class. They also learnt how to read 4 figure grid references an did some really fun map exercises to practice this very important life skill. In the afternoon they developed their forces knowledge by creating bob sleds that had limited friction building on the previous science project they did with Mrs Peacey earlier last term.
We came together with Willow class for part of Thursday to learn about the significance of 80 years since VE Day. We read a letter from a veteran and empathised with his experiences by writing a diary entry as him on 8th May 1945. The children enjoyed finding out about this gentleman's experiences and shared the experiences they knew about from within their families. They wrote some very inciteful comments which showed they understood the importance of trying to avoid conflict and wars. To supplement this we made doves from paper plates and each dove carries a message of hope for peace for the future; we have displayed these around the school for all to see. They also had a go at being code breakers using morse code to crack and send messages to each other. To create a mini tea party, all the children decorated a biscuit in red white and blue icing which we all ate together on the field at the end of the day. Hopefully in years to come they will remember some of these activities and they will have happy memories of this key anniversary in the history of our country.
It was lovely to see so many of you at thee Oak Open Classroom event on Friday too, we love showing off what we have been doing and sharing it with you. It was good to see you enjoying the maypole dance and seeing the work we have recently produced.
