Willow wb 07.05.25
We have had a lovely week in Willow class with our termly visit to Forest School and our whole school activities to remember VE day on Thursday. The children in KS2 all made a peace dove and found synonyms to represent the meaning and importance of peace. They all designed medals and tea pots for a VE day street party. One of the highlights was decorating a VE day biscuit in the colours red, white and blue before enjoying these altogether with the rest of the school at the end of the day.
In Writing lessons we have continued to explore the text Meerkat Mail. We learned how to accurately use an apostrophe for possession in a sentence. We identified the punctuation in the text and compared them to apostrophes for contraction. We also learned the difference between singular and plural possession. Next week, we will write our own postcards and diaries using the skills we have learned. In maths lessons, year 3 have been learning how to find fractions of amounts using our knowledge of division. Year 4 have been comparing and ordering decimals using our knowledge of place value.
In our reading lesson we shared a new text. 'A penguin called Einstein' is a mystery story and we used it to help pick out vocabulary choices and make inferences linked to character actions.
Next week we will be using longitude and latitude to locate cities from around the world to help us develop our use of the atlas. We will also look at famous landmarks and use online mapping to locate these.
