Willow wb 12.05.25
Willow class have been learning all about the features on a map, focusing on longitude and latitude. After finding out the definitions of these terms, we went on to use the world map to locate countries and cities from around the world. Some of us even located famous landmarks using online mapping. Everybody did a great job as this is a challenging skill.
As part of our Science, the children have been learning about friction and how it is useful in everyday life. We need friction to create a good grip between the soles of our shoes and the ground, or between our car tyres and the road. At other times, friction can be something we want to reduce. Oil or lubricants are added to door hinges or the gears of our bicycles to reduce friction and make them move more easily. The children made a prediction to see what happens when you pick up a jelly cube covered in oil compared to a jelly cube without. The children explained what happened using their knowledge of friction.
In writing lessons, the children have written their own letter in the style of the letters written in Meerkat Mail. We researched different creatures to write a post card home from this animal. The children had to include all the grammar they have learned including facts about the animal they have researched.
In maths the children have been learning how to convert pounds and pence and finding change. Our Year 3 children have been using part part whole models to add and subtract different values whilst the Year 4s have been focusing on calculating with money and subtraction.
On Thursday morning we were really lucky to have the opportunity to take part in a maypole dancing workshop. We were impressed with the children's coordination and how they followed the instructions.
