Shaping Bright Futures Together

Little Acorn

Our little Acorn children have really settled well into school and it has been a delight to watch their confidence grow.  We have  immersed ourselves in learning about acorns to give some meaning to our Acorn Class identity.  We have done some wonderful learning, often going completely off plan, and following the interests of the children.

We started the week, with a hunt for acorns and have found out about an acorn's journey to become an Oak tree. We have been learning a new Oak tree song and have been practising our dancing.   We even planted an acorn in the hope that we will have an Oak sapling before we leave school in Year 5.

One of the children noticed her "shadow" on the playground, so we discussed what had caused it and why their was no shadow in the "shade". Then, we drew our outlines on the playground with chalk. We read a book about a mole and decided to act out the story pretending to be the different animals that appear in the story.  Not surprisingly our children are quite tired by the end of the day, and so were their teachers!
