Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week beginning 14th July 2025

How did we get to the end of term this quickly? It doesn't seem five minutes since my first blog of the year!

The week started with the Main Games for the Year 5 where they got to spend the day with classmates from their new forms, to make new bonds ready for September. It was a great day and lovely to get to know some of the children who will be part of the everyday lives of our much loved Oak children.

The rest of our week has been dedicated, in some form or other, to practicing for assemblies. Wednesday saw the wonderful tributes to Mrs Shiels and Mrs Peacey. The children in Oak and across the school were amazing, I was so proud of how they showed their respect through song, poetry, anecdotes and community - it was a wonderful celebration of two very special people in our lives. The wider Ashton family at its best.

On Thursday the Year 5's had their final opportunity to perform in their leavers assembly. They wrote wonderful poems, shared drama they created themselves and received hard earnt Star Awards which summarised their time with us in Year 5. We went back in time to when they were in Reception, dug up the time capsule they planted and saw a montage of photos of their time throughout our school. It is such a precious time for our Year 5 children, where they reflect on their years with us and balance this with the excitement of moving on. I predict there will be more tears shed on Friday when they finally leave us.  We will miss them very much.

Have a wonderful holiday and thank you for all the wonderful support you have given your children and the Oak team this year. We will see some of you again in September.

As this is my last blog as a class teacher - it's Mrs Tulley signing off!
