This term our focus has been on the beautiful book, The Lost Words by Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris. Inspired by their work, we have created a sequel which includes the Flora and Fauna that we see around us. You will be able to see a sample of the work produced and the new song which was especially written to incorporate the words that we have focused on.
In March the whole school worked together discovering the danger that the use of plastic is having on the environment. As a result, the children started a campaign to encourage other schools to change their supply of school milk in plastic poly bottles to pint glass bottles, thus reducing the amount of plastic going to landfill. They sent persuasive letters to other schools and wrote to Harriett Baldwin about their concerns. The result has been that a number of schools have changed their practice.
There has been an increase in demand for people visiting food banks. They offer short term solution for homeless people, those that may have had their benefits stopped or reduced, or those generally falling on hard times. Each parcel is designed to last approx. 7 days.
