It has been so lovely to welcome our Acorns children back to school this week, refreshed and ready for an exciting term of adventures ahead and we have been so impressed by their enthusiasm for learning and by the superb work they have been doing.
The Reception children have been busy creating a very special time capsule.
There has been great excitement in Acorn Class this week with the arrival of our baby chicks and, unusually, the hatching of them has been spread throughout the week with new arrivals every day. Each morning the children have been very excited to come into the class and find out what changes have happened overnight.
We are now counting down the days until the middle of next week when we hope the eggs in the incubator in our classroom will hatch. Meanwhile we have been investigating other animals which lay eggs and have been finding out about the lifecycle of some of these creatures.
It has been an absolute joy to have all our little Acorns back in school this week
This week we have been on countdown and we are all very excited to be coming back to school next Monday!
On 1st March we found out about St David’s Day , listened to the story of ‘Elen Benfelen a’r Tair Arth’ (that’s ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’) read in welsh by the lovely Mrs Clayton, investigated and made daffodils and explored google earth to locate wales and many other places as well.
Our theme this week has been farm animals and we have enjoyed a range of stories which have led us into map making, creative writing, ladybird themed maths, weighing and measuring and all sorts of creative activities from biscuit making to rock chicks.
However the big excitement of the week was on Wednesday when we had 30 members of Acorn reception and preschool together on a googlemeet and we put some chicken eggs into the incubator in our classroom. If we look after them carefully over the next three weeks, and are very lucky, we hope to have some baby chicks in Acorn class just before Easter.
On Thursday many of us chose to dress up for World Book Day as well as creating our own gallery of dressed potato storybook characters .
During Spring 1 Term we challenged the children to make a vehicle for the future from junk modelling. We were bowled over by their ingenuity and creativity, and wanted to take this opportunity to share all their designs with you. They went through a detailed design process – planning and drawing their ideas first, making them up with care and precision, and then decorating them to create the finished product. Afterwards, they evaluated them and thought about any changes they might implement if they were to make them again. We have a class of very talented young designers! Great job, Team Hawthorn!
