Fireworks in Acorn Class
This week we have had a firework theme in Acorn Class. We have made rockets using the letters of our name and in maths we have been counting up and down along number lines to blast off. We have designed and created our own firework models and practised our fine motor skills threading sparkly pipe cleaners onto colanders and snipping paper circles to make fireworks . We have also used beautiful jewels to make some lovely repeat pattern firework designs.
On Thursday we had our own Bonfire Day celebration and learned about the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. After a talk from Mrs Shiels about fire safety, and the lesson learned by Francis Firefly who got too close to the fire , we enjoyed a mini bonfire in the campfire circle on the playing field and we all toasted marshmallows. We then made a huge bonfire picture together using natural materials. This was followed by an afternoon of splatter painting fireworks on the field and investigating fibre optic lights in the classroom.
We have listened to Handel’s Firework music and made up our own firework dances with fizzy sparklers, shooting rockets and twirling Catherine wheels and we have also had been working together in small groups to write our own firework poems.
