Shaping Bright Futures Together

22-Hawthorn Wb 3rd October

We've started a new unit in English this week based on the book, 'Little People, Big Dreams' focusing on Florence Nightingale. So far, we've read her story and retold it using actions to help us remember what happened, have a look at the photos to see what the children came up with!

We went on to sequence a series of pictures setting out her life story, adding captions to describe key events. Next week, we'll explore some of the grammatical aspects of the text.
In maths, Year 1s have moved on to addition and subtraction within 10 and discovered what a part whole diagram is. Year 2s have continued their work on place value - ordering and comparing different amounts of objects and numbers.
This week in phonics, the Year 1 children have been concentrating on ee alternatives - ea, e_e, ie, ey and y.  Ask the children what they can remember and don't forget to point these out when you are out and about!
We've had a big focus on Harvest this week building up to today's special assembly. The children finished their HARVEST collages and practised performing our class Kenning. They also learnt a super-speedy song with Holly Class.
Finally, on Friday afternoon the children had a forest school session.  We were really lucky with the weather, it was very windy but the rain held off right until we got back to school.  We had a great time investigating the woodland habitat!
