23 Holly Class W/B 19th June 2023

Another lovely and sunny week in Holly Class!

This week in Holly we have read the story ‘look what I found at the seaside’ to carry on our seaside topic. We identified different human and physical features that might be by the seaside including shops, boats, harbour, ocean, sand and cliff. Reception made some lovely paintings of the seaside!

In phonics this week, year 1 have been learning about the suffixes ‘ed’ and ‘ing’ and their spelling rules. Reception have recapped their phase 3 phonemes and practised reading and writing words with these in, as well as practicing lots of tricky words.

In maths this week, year 1 have had an introduction to money by looking at coins and notes and comparing values. Reception have been introduced to subtraction number sentences using practical objects and practiced their sequencing to 10 using numicon and numerals, as well as developing their understanding of ‘more’ and ‘less’ by grouping numbers into more or less than 5.

In literacy this week, year 1 have planned and written a report about the school castle trip for their practice write. Reception have done lots of writing this week, coming up with their own sentences that describe different seaside pictures. They have also began their own piece of writing all about what they did on the castle trip.

In science this week Holly class have explored and explained the process of germination; when roots and shoots emerge from the seed!

See you next week everyone! Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
