Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 19th June

We have had a very active week, with all the cycling and more opportunities to do practical activities in small groups.

We parked up our work on decimals this week to do lots of practical maths associated with learning about volume and capacity. The children have built shapes out of cubes to calculate volume, compared the different volumes of shapes and started to improve their skills when trying to estimate volume too. Towards the end of the week the focus switched to capacity and they had great fun in the playground estimating and measuring the capacity of loads of different objects. They had some very small and very large or unusual objects to use from estimating how much water it took to fill an egg cup to a large traffic cone!! They didn't really mind getting a bit wet in the process either as it was soooo hot! Lots of good maths talk was heard and they found the estimating very tricky but did improve their skills and accuracy when measuring.

In English we have continued to develop our ability to discover the plot of A Midsummers Nights Dream through being one of the characters and writing a diary entry to describe How Bottom felt about being turned in to a donkey and matching up quotes to the characters and explaining what happened in that part of the story. The highlight was when we took our learning outside again and created some freeze frame tableau's of different parts of the story. The children  practiced their facial expressions and thought about what the characters body language would reveal about the character in that snap shot moment. We took a photo of the scene then they annotated them with speech bubbles to show the words that would match the scene. They had great fun being cross, sad, upset and angry!!

All the children did a fabulous job when improving their cycling skills, we are very proud of the way they have conducted themselves this week and worked really hard to listen, follow instructions and improve their skills. Check out the gallery for a few shots of them in action on the road.

Next week is another busy one; Wednesday is Transition Day at BHA please refer to the letter and email regarding the different timings for the day, the same day they are holding a meeting for parents in the evening. On Thursday is the Bell Boating Regatta in Pershore, again please refer to the letters we have sent out for further information especially as the children are not with us in school the previous day.
