Shaping Bright Futures Together

23/24 Holly Class w/b 26th February

This week the children have enjoyed having our Bog Baby visitor in the classroom! They have worked with us to set up a nature explorer shed and enjoyed lots of imaginative play in there this week. In our literacy lessons all of the children have retold the story of Bog Baby, the reception children cut out and sequenced some pictures and chose one to write about whilst the Y1 children wrote a sentence to go with each of the pictures from the story. They have also been working on creating a detailed description of Bog Baby for people who don't know about him. The children also enjoyed painting the clay Bog Babies they made last week, they paid close attention to the details on the wings and eyes.

In maths, the Reception children have been continuing to work on using the language of more than, less than and equal to, as well as comparing weights through various activities around the classroom. See if they can tell you some things that are heavier and lighter than Bog Baby! The Year 1 children have started working with numbers up to 50 this week in a new place value unit of work. They have been representing numbers using different resources, drawing them and splitting them down into tens and ones.

On Friday, at snack and a chat time we had some welsh cakes to celebrate St David's Day and learnt a little bit about why it is an important day for our Welsh families. In the afternoon, as it was officially the first day of spring, we went outside for a Spring scavenger hunt and Mrs Shiels helped us to cook some treats on a fire.

We have also been busy starting our Protect our Planet topic and starting to learn about the human and physical features of our village ready to make some comparisons to a non European country next week.
