24 25 Hawthorn Wb 23 September
This week, there's been a real 'Harvest' theme in Hawthorn class. The children have been working hard on learning the songs for the Harvest assembly this morning, along with our special contribution - the Harvest Hoedown! If you were able to attend, we hope you enjoyed their wonderful performance!
Earlier in the week when we were joined by the Holly Year 1s for RE, the children created lovely collage letters for the word HARVEST, depicting the changing of seasons from summer to autumn. It made a lovely display for the assembly!
In English, the children have continued writing their own versions of 'Meerkat Mail', about a squirrel from Ashton woods. They all worked really hard on their stories and we are very pleased with the results.
In maths, Year 1s have been comparing numbers and begun to use the inequality symbols. Meanwhile, Year 2s have continued their work with number lines.
We also carried out our election for class representatives for school council. Quite a few children put themselves forward and explained what they'd like to do to improve the school and why they'd be a good member of the council. Very well done to all who took part and congratulations to the two pupils who were chosen by their peers. We hope to hold our first meeting next week in which there will be a handover from the previous members of the council.
We continued with our materials work in Science and the children became designers and had to use magnets and craft materials to make a game. They worked with a partner to make either a maze or a "fishing" game or a combination of the two. The children worked really hard on their ideas and were really inventive with the theme of their games. At the end of the lesson they then shared their designs. What a lot of super engineers and designers we have in the class!
