Shaping Bright Futures Together

2425 Holly Class week beginning 16th September

There has been more mischief from the veggies in Supertato in Holly Class this week but luckily, Evil Pea got trapped in some ice! The children had a brilliant time working together to try and work out how he might have got in and watching what happened as the ice melted. At drawing club this week, the children have used their imaginations to draw where Evil Pea might live as well as drawing traps and wondering where Supertato might go next when he leaves us. The Reception children have been practising writing their names each day to go with their drawings and the Year 1 children have been focussing on ensuring their sentences describing their drawings have capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

In maths this week, the Reception children have been working on using the vocabulary more, fewer and same to compare objects as well as creating their own rules to sort objects. The Year 1 children have been focussing on counting backwards as well as finding 1 less using practical equipment and also number lines.

On Thursday we had a visit from Charlotte from the Dog's Trust who taught us all about the work they do and how to enjoy spending time around dogs. The children really enjoyed meeting her and Wilfred (her puppet dog!) and finding out how we can stay safe and make sure the dogs we have at home or meet when we are out and about are happy.

The Reception children are continuing to grow in confidence and are so settled in Holly class. They are learning all of our routines and enjoying exploring and playing in the classroom.

The Year 1 children have continued their history topic work and learnt a little bit more about the life of Florence Nightingale. They worked together to sequence images telling the story of her life and enjoyed playing a game where they had to spot which one was missing.

This week we have also started our preparations for the school Harvest Festival next week. We have been singing songs and learning the story of The Little Red Hen. The children are taking their acting roles very seriously and we are looking forward to sharing the story with you all.
