Week Beginning 9th September 2024
Our first full week has flown by and we finished it in the perfect way - a trip to Forest School, a brilliant way for us to continue making bonds in our new class family.
We are continuing to enjoy following the adventures of Varjak Paw in English, and this week have been revising the use of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions which will enrich the quality of our sentences. We practised these skills by writing a different version of the dream Varjak had in the novel. The children used their brilliant imaginations to create a dream perfect for cat on a voyage of discovery. In Maths we have been working hard using large numbers writing them in digits and words, using place value charts, adding and subtracting 10, 100 and 1000, partitioning and labelling number lines; phew what a lot of maths! We played a great game too. They had to make the largest 4 digit number which showed the competitive side to the class - they certainly are motivated to win.
Our topic has given us the opportunity to look at Viking artefacts, studying the patterns they display. We thought about what this told us about daily life of Vikings and had a go at recreating some of the most popular designs.
It was great to see so many of you at the Meet The Teacher meeting this week, if you were unable to attend or need to remind yourself of some of the details, the presentation is on the Oak Class page on the website.
