Acorn 25 The Castle The King Built
Our week has been dominated by our new role play castle, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed playing in. It now has a chandelier, fireplace, thrones, portraits to decorate the walls and a table with charger plates.
We have been learning about some of the people that would have lived in a castle and the jobs that they did. The book 'The Castle The King Built' has some beautiful illustrations of a castle and its inhabitants going about their everyday work. We have looked at some virtual tours of castles and some children have made comments about their own experiences of visits they have made.
We have been making shields. Each child has chosen which shape they would like and over the next couple of weeks will work on decorating it with their own unique heraldry. In maths, we have counted out numbers of 'jewels' on to crowns and in phonics we have continued work on syllable clapping.
On Thursday, we celebrated V.E. Day. In the morning, we decorated and ate some delicious red, white and blue biscuits and in the afternoon, we painted some Union Jack flags. We joined the rest of the school for a special assembly and watched the CBeebies Poppies video which is a very simple animation of the effects of war on a rabbit.
In addition to this, we have learnt a new song about a castle on a hill, practised our dancing and played outside on the bikes and trikes. What a busy short week it has been!
