Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 28th November 2022

There have been lots of exciting opportunities this week to do 'out of the ordinary' activities.

On Monday Mrs Cassell from the PFA came into Oak Class to help us to do some crafting! We all made a decoration that took a lot of skills and coordination to produce. All the children gave the experience 10 out of 10 even if they did find it a bit tricky at times. The results of our hard work will be on sale at the PFA Christmas Fayre on Friday 9th December, where you can purchase your child's decoration. See the gallery for a sneak preview of the final results.

During Tuesday afternoon, most of the children took part in the Inter House Cross Country down at the community field. They showed much resilience in the chilly air and came back to school with a great sense of achievement for all their hard work. See the separate blog entry to find out which was the victorious House team.

Wednesday morning brought a huge boost of colour and wonder to school hall as the children of Key Stage 2 welcomed Krishna and Indriyesha Darsi into school. They came to share stories, music, dances and a huge variety of artefacts to help the children develop their knowledge of Hinduism and support the learning of this religion in their RE lessons this term. The children had a wonderful time engaging in this very hands-on activity and really enjoyed their morning. The highlights were dressing up, taking part in a special dance using sticks and acting out the stories. See the fun they had for yourself by looking at the gallery.

On Thursday we had our last trip to the swimming pool. The children had great fun in this last play session and made the most of sending time in the pool playing water volleyball, diving under the water for toys and generally splashing around! It was lovely to see them having so much fun.

We are in the full flow of preparations for our Business Enterprise project at the Christmas Fayre. This week we have done some market research and made final decisions about what each group needs to buy. Next week we will embark on our marketing strategy and go into production ready for Friday. It's all go, go, go at the minute!!

Friday afternoon was filled with Eco fun as we learnt all about 'fast fashion'. In house groups, the children up-cycled old school jumpers and other items into no-sew bags and took part in a fashion show to show off the creations that were made. We hope to inspire some ethical fashion icons of the future!

We have done some 'proper work' this week too, continuing with our learning in fractions and looking at figurative language in poems and writing some similes to describe a monster of their own choice. We have also been completing assessments too, phew its exhausting!!

Auditions for the Oak production will be taking place on Tuesday 12th December, please encourage your child to come up with an idea to perform a mini sketch, tell jokes, sing a song, perform a dance etc. in order for us to decide on which role they take in the play. Scripts will be sent out before Christmas to start learning over the break.
