Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Sports Round up

We had a very busy week last week with the Swimming Gala and Handball fixture.

Handball

Oak and Willow have been doing Handball in P.E which is a new sport for a lot of the children. It is a cross between football and netball so something for everyone! The children really enjoyed learning something new and took to it really well, with lots of matches within the lessons, all with mixed teams of boys and girls.

Sedgeberrow school have also been doing Handball so we arranged for some of the children in Oak class to go and play a match. We took two teams and went in the minibus after school. The competition was really tough but our teams, who played two matches each, did really well and were able to put their new skills into practise. Even though we didn't win, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was a great opportunity for them to have a competitive game with another school. Every child put in 100% effort and  played really well but a special mention goes to Millie who was an amazing goal keeper! She stopped so many potential goals and was a real asset to her team.

A big well done to the children, they all displayed a great attitude and team spirit and we were proud of them!

Swimming Gala

The annual swimming gala was held last week at Evesham leisure Centre. This year the schools were put into different divisions depending on the size of the school.

We took a team of 18 swimmers who had all been practising hard during their school swimming lessons.

We came 2nd overall and won the girls relay which was an amazing achievement as a lot of our children had not swum in a gala before and were really nervous! They all dug deep on the day and showed real determination and effort. They all cheered each other on during their races, showing great encouragement and support, I think we were the loudest team with all our cheering!  Ashton team spirit at its best.

We had 3 individual gold medal winners and 1 team gold medal:

Tabbie - Year 4 girls Front crawl

Ava - Year 3 girls Beast Stroke

Annabel - Year 3 Girls Front crawl

Edith, Gracie, Tabbie and Ava - Girls Relay winners

Massive congratulations to all of our swimmers, they were a credit to our school.
