Willow - Week 4

It has been another exciting week in Willow class this week.

Our main focus in English has been on 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'.  The children have been experiencing what it is like to be an unlikely hero and starting to plan their own Arthur mini adventure.  The children have chosen their own magical item and this will form the basis of their story.  We will keep you updated!

The focus for Maths this week has been the topic of addition and subtraction.  This has involved using number lines and column addition and subtraction and the children are becoming really good at using both of these methods. Year 4 children looked at Roman numerals and negative numbers.

Our Topic work has continued with the Vikings this week. The children have been making Viking shields for their Viking God and even turned into mini investigators where they had to find the clues from a series of Viking artefacts. The children were most disappointed when they found out that Vikings didn't actually wear horned helmets!

The children have enjoyed using the programming package 'Scratch' and followed a series of questions and tutorials.  They will eventually be designing and playing their own Scratch computer games which they are very much looking forward to!

Thursday was 'Saving Lives by Wearing Red' day and the children were excited to arrive at school wearing their reddest clothes! An assembly was held on the 'Midlands Air Ambulance charity' and a collection was made to support this most worthy cause.

Next Friday is our Harvest Festival.  The children have been working hard on several pieces of work which they are looking forward to presenting at our whole school assembly.  We are looking forward to seeing you there!
